The Friends of Newstead Inc is a group of volunteers who assist The Board of Trustees with the conservation and public presentation of Newstead House. The Friends of Newstead Inc was established in 1975 and became an incorporated not-for-profit association in 1998. The Association’s objectives are to foster public awareness in the historical and educational value of Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence; to raise funds and work for the promotion, development and maintenance of the fabric of Newstead House and its surrounds as an historic site; and to conduct activities for the purposes of fostering fellowship amongst the membership, which will encourage an appreciation of history.
Friends participate in and promote social and historical events such as the bi-annual Patrick Leslie Address as well as organizing coach tours to places of historic import. There are two levels of membership: Associate and Active and new members are always most welcome. Active Friends work as volunteers at Newstead House undertaking a number of activities including opening, closing and presenting the house to visitors, guided tours and cleaning bees; All active friends are required to become a volunteer of Newstead House.
