Year 1 & Year 2
Connect with Heritage is an immersive day program delivered by the wonderful team of educators from Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre, our partners in school education
This unique program offers a selection of hands-on learning experiences inspiring students to connect with heritage at our significant site on the Brisbane River.
Upon arrival students are invited to become History Detectives as they follow the footsteps of the Leslie family to discover how the lives of Colonial Queenslanders are similar and different to their own in the present day. Students explore the grounds of Newstead House to appreciate how the land has changed over time, impacting on local Aboriginal peoples’ culture and traditions.
A suite of educational experiences and activities are designed for students to compare Brisbane in the 1840’s to Brisbane today. History Detectives step back in time as they are immersed in activities including ‘Wash Day Wonders’, ‘Games on the Green’, ‘Kate’s Garden’ and ‘Mrs Fletchers Kitchen’. The program concludes with an exploration of Newstead House and justification of why the house is a significant site and should be preserved.
